Lo Stocco
Stockfish (pescestocco) or simply stocco is the food consisting of the northern cod (Gadus morhua) preserved by drying. The name could derive from the Norwegian stokkfisk or from the ancient Dutch stocvisch, that is "stick fish". In Calabria it is called stocco or stocco (piscistoccu) fish and it is particularly tied to the cities of the Strait of Messina from the time of the Normans, remained in the tradition even after the disastrous earthquake of 1908 after the humanitarian relief of Norway on the strait.
